The university is not in any way affiliated with the more famous St. John's University Italian campus in Rome. The university’s campus is located in the Renaissance Della Rovere Castle in Vinovo (Torino), Italy.[2] SJIU has administrative offices in Vinovo and in Concord, New Hampshire, USA. Academic offerings include 4-year undergraduate programs, 2-year graduate programs and short-term study abroad academic programs.[3] With courses taught in the English language, the university’s pedagogy is founded in the American tradition of a liberal arts education. The mission of St. John International University is to offer liberal arts educational programs of the highest quality to a globally diverse student population. Through its graduate and undergraduate programs in the American tradition, St. John International University’s objectives include promoting humanism, fostering respect for the fundamental rights of the individual, emphasizing research, and instilling awareness of one’s physical and cultural surroundings. By integrating these objectives, graduates will gain an environmental and cultural awareness, which will prepare them to share with other members of society the responsibility that each of us has towards our natural and social worlds.[5]
Keeping in line with its academic mission, SJIU offers undergraduate and graduate courses in the liberal arts, humanities and arts and sciences. Courses throughout the summer and academic year can be taken in the following disciplines:[6] architecture, art history, environmental sciences, political science, business, economics, history, Italian language and culture, film studies, computer science, sociology, religious studies, and modern languages and literature.
St. John International University offers the following undergraduate and graduate programs:
St. John International University’s campus is based in the Renaissance Della Rovere Castle, originally built in 1510, in Vinovo (Torino), Italy. The repurposing and restoration of the castle is underway and, once complete, it will have over 54,000 square feet (5,000 m2) dedicated to faculty, staff and students.[7] The campus is located just 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) away from medieval towns like Moncalieri (home to the Collegio Carlo Alberto), and the historic park of Stupinigi.
St. John International University is located in the Piedmont region of northern Italy, giving students access to the commerce, business, art, architecture and culture of the area. The SJIU campus was established in the Della Rovere Castle in Vinovo, outside the city center of Torino, and exposes students to the culture of local Italian life and the castle's 16th beauty.
SJIU organizes numerous activities throughout the year for its students. Academic course work includes excursions to museums, theaters, and musical performances; participation in various cultural events in Torino; and language and culture exchanges.[8]
The student body is represented by the Student Government, a university-wide student government association composed of a minimum of three members and a maximum of nine members. It is composed of students elected every year in September.[9]
The organization promotes the common welfare of the students, which it does by sponsoring programs and services and through acting as the voice of the student body.
St. John International University welcomes students from all over the world and has established partnership agreements with various universities in order to facilitate student exchange, faculty exchange and collaborative research projects.
